![]() Fast rolling, double the heals, and wound removal on top of that beats starting with plate and waddling around with 97% encumbrance.Ĭonsider the layout of the Skill Tree. Compare this to a Knight or Paladin, which get ~25-33% damage reduction from physical attacks at the cost of fat-rolling, and the Cleric has them beat hands down on staying power. Mending basically translates into three extra health flasks. They have Mending for free (and can cast it 3 times at the start), a Crystalmoat ring, a flanged mace, a midshipman's dagger, a shield not worth using and some armor not worth wearing. These spells will be useful for the entire game even without raising your Wisdom beyond 10.Ĭlerics start with one rank in Light Armor (+1 Endurance) and one rank in Cleric 1 (+1 Wisdom). There are other spells but they're basically redundant thanks to items. With level 2 Cleric you get access to Divine Will (a huge stamina regen buff, far better than worn stamina-recharging items) and Spirited Mend, which costs a little less than double what Mending does while restoring twice as many Wounds with twice the healing. It's more or less guaranteed to get rid of all of your Wounds except in the most extreme late game attrition matches. Sacred Linens restores something 50+Wisdom points of Wounds, which is crazy. I think it scales a little but not to any meaningful degree. Divine Armor reduces incoming physical damage by around 20%, apparently regardless of Wisdom. It restores 10+(Wisdom x 0.2) points of Wounds and while the amount healed does scale at 100+(Wisdom x 2), it's generous enough at the start to be useful even without investment. ![]() The prayer you start with, Mending, is a nice solid replacement for a health flask and you can cast it three times right off the bat without crippling your stamina, thanks to the Crystalmoat Ring that Clerics start with. Good Prayers for Low Wisdom Characters (and High Wisdom Characters, Too) ![]() You can have a Wisdom of 10 and get a ton of mileage out of these things. It turns out that low level prayers include some really useful stuff that either doesn't scale meaningfully with Wisdom, or doesn't scale at all with Wisdom. There are two relevant stages to compare the Cleric choice with other classes: the very early game (say, from the beginning up through the sanctuary at the Village of Smiles) and the late game, where you've replaced your starting gear and your main consideration is the number of black and gray pearls you needed to spend to get what you want.įirst, though, consider the utility of prayers at low Wisdom. Okay, so I'm here to tell you why starting as a Cleric is the best option in basically all cases, especially if you don't plan on putting a bunch of points into Wisdom.
